DR. SEKULA GIBBS CAN HELP YOU RECLAIM YOUR YOUTHFUL FACE BY RESTORING VOLUME

Today's dermal fillers may act in three ways to reverse the signs of aging: 1) They stimulate collagen and tissue growth, 2) They temporarily replace lost volume in the tissues, 3) they do both.  Dr. Shelley Sekula Gibbs has helped patients optimize their appearance with dermal fillers for over 20 years.  One very effective way to perk up the face is to use varying fillers with special properties in specific areas of of the face.  Fillers can be layered to extend benefit.  Dr. Sekula Gibbs will work with you to design a program that fits your beauty needs and your financial requirements.  Bay Oaks Dermatology  - Skin Vein and Laser Center offers CareCredit to assist you in achieving the healthy natural look you want today.

Radiesse®

What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse®, calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHa), is an FDA-approved injectable dermal filler that is used to restore volume while correcting facial wrinkles and folds.  CaHa has been used in dental and reconstructive surgery for over 10 years.  It works in two ways.  First, the polysaccharide suspension gel produces an immediate effect by filling the targeted wrinkles and folds.  As the early effects subside, the calcium microspheres suspended in a water-based gel activate your body to produce your own natural collagen.  Over time, the calcium microspheres dissolve through normal metabolism.  Correction can last up to 12 months according to a study published in the February 2008 issue of the Journal of Dermatological Surgery.   Because Radiesse is white it is not typically used for restoring volume to the lips and can not be used on persons with very thin skin.

What is Restylane®?

Restylane®, (Medicis Aesthetics) is a clear gel, nonanimal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA).  In 2003, It became the first hyaluronic acid (HA) filler to receive FDA approval. It still leads the dermal filler category today for moderate wrinkles and lip enhancement.  Restylane® restores volume and fullness to the skin.  It helps correct facial lines that appear with age, along the nasolabial folds. Moderate to severe wrinkles in the face can be smoothed out with Restylane®. This filler lasts approximately six months and sometimes longer. Restylane® has been used in more than one million treatments worldwide and although off-label, it can be effective at plumping and filling lips. As a non-animal based synthetic material, Restylane virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

In addition to restoring volume in your face, hyaluronic acid may also have a stimulatory effect on collagen, according to Dr. John J. Voorhees, MD, as published in an article in the February 2007 issue of Archives of Dermatology.  Researchers led by Dr. Voorhees, reported new collagen synthesis in a photodamaged forearm one week after it was injected with Restylane and noted that collagen biosynthesis continued at the site 13 weeks later.
